Inktober 5#

Black Dog is the name given to a being found primarily in the folklores of the British Isles. The black dog is essentially a nocturnal apparition, often said to be associated with the Devil or a Hellhound. Its appearance was regarded as a portent of death. It is generally supposed to be larger than a normal dog, and often has large, glowing eyes.

Stories tell of them terrifying their victims, but leaving them alone to continue living normal lives; in some cases it has supposedly happened before close relatives to the observer die or become ill.

In other tales the animal is regarded as relatively benign and said to accompany women on their way home. Some black dogs have been said to help lost travellers find their way home through the moors and are more often helpful than threatening.

The “Beast of Dartmoor” in England, a legendary animal that has been sighted many times, though here it is supposedly caught on film. Most oral sightings report a “puma-like” big cat, and there is apparently more than one, as both black and the beige cougar color have been described. Some have also reported seeing a leopard, a “bear-like” black beast, and a lion. The animal in the video is hard to make out, but many people believe it to be a black leopard/jaguar, a black lion (most likely not, as there is no proof of a melanistic lion ever existing beyond some photoshopped photos), and a boar/suidae.

The legend, however, claims that the giant black animals in Dartmoor are “yeth hounds,” demon-eyed black dogs that are actually the lost and demonic souls of dead and lost children, and they emit an inhuman scream when hunting. If they catch you, it is said they drag you to a faraway place never to be found again.

Many Native American tribes shared a common legend of a massive-winged creature that is suppose to be larger than a condor; the great Thunderbird.

Reports of Thunderbird sightings go back centuries, and the fossil record does show that giant birds with wingspans between 12 and 18 ft were likely contemporary with early man. Today the creature is generally regarded as a myth.

»The White Thing

Some of the tendencies include high pitched screaming like a woman or baby crying, hunched over crawling on all fours, sometimes no eyes, only holes for ears, and sometimes having what appears to be fur.
