In lieu of the actual Doctor helping us to defeat the FBI virus, here’s some advice to avoid yourself getting caught up in it.

 - Oh my God I have asks! I’m finally popular!

Sorry my loves, but you may not be.  If you open your inbox do not follow any links that are suggested to you - even if they are from followers you know.  Delete immediately.  If they are from blogs you don’t know, delete & do not be tempted to click on their blogs to check them out.

 - Oh my God I have new followers! I’m finally popular!

Much the same as above.  Unless you followed them first, be wary of following back new followers especially if they have odd usernames…scratch that, we all do here, but you know, random letters & numbers…well, anyway, you know what I mean!

- Can I use Tumblr mobile safely?

To be honest, I’m not sure.  I’ve seen lots of people asking this question but no-one definitively answer it.  I’d proceed with the same caution as advised above.

 - How do I know if I have the virus?

Anecdotally I’ve seen that people will get pop-ups informing them that the FBI or other law enforcement organisation will need to be paid a fine due to improper use on the users part of the internet.  It’s more varied than that, but essentially pop-ups of one kind or another will lock out the screen & cannot be closed.  On Tumblr it appears to be passed on through links sent via infected users & virus accounts.

- Well, if The Doctor can’t save me, what can I do?!!!1!!?

I’m seeing expensive software being recommended as a fix & don’t really agree with this.  The best I can tell you is either - ctrl+alt+F4, reboot & run anti-virus software immediately…or if those keystrokes don’t work risk switching it off directly then do the same.

 - Disclaimer

I am not tech-savvy, & can’t guarantee this advice will keep your computer safe from this virus or get it working in the event you contract it.  I’ll be tagging this post with anyone who sends out an ask/fan-mail with a spurious link.  I hope this will alert unwitting victims & expose virus accounts.

Keep safe out there!
