i’m pretty sure these are the leaked redesigns. no pegasi concepts yet, and we don’t knoe if these are the designs that will be used in canon

Why not make flutters an earth pony, she spends all her time with animals anyway
I kind of hoped that they’d drop the main six all together and have new protagonists really. And even if they don’t it’s gen 5, and if there aren’t changes it would have been disappointing.
They may be the mane 6, but they aren’t going to be the same mane six. It’s fine though I wonder how the toy sales influenced the designs.
I would have rather had them become the matriarchal roles that Granny Smith, mrs.cake, Luna, celestia, etc. hold to a new generation

But twilight is the first and last name in magic you do a huge disservice to her character by making her an earth pony. Glad to see that applejack won’t just get axed but I hope she isn’t just a generic pony or southern belle instead.
I think they aren’t going far enough, I feel like g5 needs to be more divorced from g4. They aren’t going to be the same characters so the redesigns should be more drastic.
I agree with you. If you’re going to keep them respect what they are to so many people or go whole hog and change everything. This half measure just leaves everyone unsatisifed.
These are presumably just some sketch ups, there’s still time to see more changes coming. Though I’d like to see some small snipitanof world building just to put these designs in context.
And as far as fluttershy goes I can see why they made her a unicorn, she is popular

Either way I’m curious about the new world for g5, who knows how things will work. The high fantasy seems to be a thing that’s staying, but I really really don’t want 4.5 so they can crib off 4.
If it’s going to be 4.5 keep the characters as is but they’d be better off making 5 it’s own thing entirely. I want high fantasy to stay.

That twilight is gonna be a different character, it’s not really a big deal what species she is.
It is to me, and assumably judging by their designs they’re not entirely different characters.
