Nineteenth Century Paris Catacombs Workers

What do catacombs smell like? I’ve seen descriptions of what the air feels like, the darkness, the piles of bones, but never the smell.

Is it dusty? Probably must and mold. What about a stale scent of rot? I have no idea.
