Colt Python
A large and very collectable revolver from Colt’s “snake series”. Chambered in .357 Magnum and able to safely shoot .38 Special, the Python was available in several barrel lengths. Quick way to measure barrel length is the number of slots/ribs along the top of the barrel. 3 slots = 6”, so 2 would be a 4” barrel and 4 would be an 8” barrel.
Some Pythons were exported and sold in Germany but then re-sold back into the U.S with German proof marks, similar to the ones you find on H&K handguns. The proof marks are usually located above the trigger guard where the bottom of the cylinder would rest. The German marks add a bit more value.
